Menopause
Menopause is a natural stage of life that marks the end of menstruation and the reproductive years. The transition towards menopause, known as perimenopause, often unfolds over several years as ovarian function and hormone levels change.
From birth, the number of follicles within the ovaries gradually declines throughout a woman's life. As ovarian reserve diminishes, hormonal changes eventually lead to the cessation of menstruation. While some women move through this transition with relatively few symptoms, others experience significant physical and emotional changes that can affect their sleep, energy, mood and quality of life.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the concept of Jing, or Essence, is central to understanding ageing, reproductive health and the natural transitions of life. Jing is associated with our constitutional foundation, growth, development, reproductive capacity and the gradual changes that occur as we age.
As we move through life, our Essence naturally declines. The menopause can be understood within this framework as a significant transition in a woman's reproductive life, reflecting the changing balance of her underlying resources and the natural progression of ageing.
Acupuncture offers an individualised approach to supporting women through this transition. At The Healing Space Bristol, treatments are tailored to your symptoms, overall health and TCM pattern differentiation, with the aim of supporting your wellbeing throughout this stage of life.
